I bought a Kel Tec P11, in the hopes that Maryland will one day allow CCW. [What can I say, I have boundless amounts of undue optimism]. I should have gotten the .40s&w, but that isn't legal for sale in MD yet. *sigh* [Yes, I know you can purchase the slide assembly, and I'll get around to ot. No, I can't tell you why the same gun in .40 caliber is not legal in MD, yet ... it has to do with bureacracy and politics, not reality.] Anyway, my new toy looks pretty good upon visual inspection -- no overly annoying marks, the fit was pretty good, etc. Had some "new gun" stiffness, especially in the disassembly, but that will shake out eventually. Took it to the firing range, and introduced it to 50 rounds of Fiocchi 125 grain, 35 rounds of Fiocchi 115 grain, and 10 rounds of 135 grain Hydroshoks. Results were disheartening. First, there were two failur-to-extracts, and two failure-to-feeds, which I needed to clear. However, according to the Kel Tec buffs, a feed-ramp polish and a breaking in period will eliminate both of those. Second, I can't hit a damn thing with it. :-/ Standard introductory 25 ft range, and I was having difficulty determining where the shots were splashing. Dropping it to 7 ft helped, even though my ego lost many manly points. I think this has to do with my unfamiliarity with the gun, as I need to get used to the sights and how to hold it consistently. If the gun breaks in, and I can get used to it, I'll amend my intial review. However, I have to confess, if our relationship stays this bad, it's going to go. -- -- John E.
